When is the best time for a 3D/4D ultrasound?

That depends on what you are wanting to see. Many mothers like coming in twice, early on, 15-24 weeks, when they can see the entire baby, and then again at 25-32 weeks to see a more detailed face. We have found that the "best" timeframe is between 26-28weeks. If we try to perform the 3D/4D ultrasound before 24 weeks, the baby will appear very skinny because the baby hasn't developed much fat. Also, when trying to perform the 3D/4D ultrasound after 32 weeks, there are times that we can't capture adequate images due to the baby running out of room and positioned where we can't capture those "perfect" images. However, all babies are different and we have been successful in capturing great images all the way up to 39 weeks. Every person scans differently, depending on body habitus, position of the baby, and the amount of amniotic fluid.

How early can you determine gender?

We can determine gender as early as 16 weeks with very high accuracy. If we have difficulty determining gender due to the baby's position, then we will have you come back at no charge.

What is the preparation before I come in for an ultrasound?

While we do not require an extremely full bladder, its important to have a reasonably full bladder. This helps enhance the images we see of your baby in many cases. Also, in the later months the fluid filled bladder will push up the baby's head out of mom's pelvis so we can get better images. Another important thing to do prior to your session is to start drinking lots of water a couple of days before...it helps with the clarity of the amniotic fluid and gives a better image of the baby. One last thing...eat or drink something sweet, unless discouraged by your physician. This will really get the baby moving!

How many people can I invite and are children welcome?

At our studio, we encourage as many people as you would like, and children are most certainly welcomed!

What is the difference between 3D ultrasound and 4D ultrasound?

3D is a still image while 4D adds dimension of motion so it looks like a video showing your baby's smile, yawn, or any movement.

Is 3D/4D ultrasound safe for me and my baby?

3D/4D ultrasound is used the same as any 2D ultrasound done in your doctors office. Ultrasounds have been used for over 35 years and there have been no proven side effects from its proper use. We are are highly trained ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography) registered sonographers with 15+ years of experience in OB ultrasound.

Will my doctor be contacted about the 3D/4D ultrasound?

We do not contact your doctor prior to the ultrasound session since its an elective ultrasound. We are a non diagnostic ultrasound service, meaning it is not ordered by a physician. However, if we see something of concern, we will contact your doctor. This ultrasound in no way takes the place of your medical ultrasound or care from your physician.

What if I'm not satisfied with the quality of my images?

There are many factors that may impact the quality of ultrasound images: size and fluid around the baby, location of the placenta, positioning of the baby, hydration of the mother, and the body habitus of the mother. Our goal is to provide you with the very best images possible and a wonderful experience with us. We do not offer refunds.

How can I pay for the ultrasound?

We accept all major credit/debit cards and cash.
